Softly and Tenderly
Softly and tenderly, Jesus is calling/
Calling for you and for me/
See on the portals He’s waiting and watching/
Watching for you and for me/
Come home, come home/
All who are weary, come home/
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling/
Calling, “O sinner, come home.”
A bruised reed He will not break, and a smoldering wick He will not snuff out…
(Isaiah 42:3)
What a blessing to know that our Savior is gentle in calling the lost to Him. Even though we are rebels against His kingdom and His ways, He tenderly woos us toward Himself. Though we fight against Him with every fiber of our being, He persistently calls, and does so in love.
He knows that deep down inside, we are weary. Our sins weigh us down. We long for the freedom and love He offers. Our bruises are pointing us toward our Healer. The smoldering wick that is the aftermath of a life of sin is crying out for new breath to fan it back into a living flame.
And the Savior says, “Come home, child.”
