Description

This painting celebrates the sovereignty and glory of Almighty God as described by the Apostle John in the book of Revelation.  The composition reads from the bottom to the top, leading the viewer through major themes and moments in the unfolding drama of Revelation.  We see the hand of Jesus holding seven stars, denoting the angels of the seven churches.  Those churches are depicted by seven archways at the base of the image, with pictorial elements that are drawn from Jesus’ letter to each of the churches.  Also included are the throne of God, flashing with lightning, enveloped in an emerald rainbow, and encircled by thrones of elders.  A Lamb that was slain opened the scroll with seven seals.  Seven trumpets sound their judgments, four fearsome horsemen ride, and two witnesses proclaim with fire coming from their mouths.  The middle portion of the painting depicts the great drama of a woman, clothed with the sun and a starry crown, giving birth to a son who was pursued by Satan, a seven-headed red dragon.  She was given wings to escape him.  Beasts from the sea and the land, as well as the prostitute named Babylon, see the Lake of Fire in their future. The upper portion of the composition celebrates God’s final victory over evil for endless ages.  Jesus, wearing “King of Kings” on His thigh, riding a white horse, with a sword coming from His mouth, tramples on the head of Satan with His foot.  God judges from His Great White Throne, as the earth is harvested and the books are opened.  The new Jerusalem comes down from the heavens, dressed like a bride.  The Tree of Life is centrally located in the city and the River of Life flows out from it.
