In the beginning, God created a man and a woman and made them caretakers of a garden called Eden. They were at peace with one another and had the privilege of communing personally with God. All of that fell apart when Eve was deceived by the serpent. Enticed by its’ overtures, Eve ate of the fruit that God had forbidden them to eat. She wanted to be like God and became convinced that He was keeping good gifts from her. Adam joined Eve in her rebellion. Immediately, their eyes were opened to good and evil, just as God’s eyes are, and they realized their shame. Rather than having fellowship with God, they hid from Him. God saw what they had done and fashioned a covering for their nakedness by slaying an animal to make them clothing. God also gave out judgments on Adam and Eve, the serpent, and even creation itself. Eden, and all that went with it, was now lost.
