Thy Word

Andrew Lindberg
Thy Word

This painting is a visual depiction of Psalm 119:105, which states, “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Four iterations of God’s Word appear here. From the stone tablets that Moses received, to the scroll that prophets like Jeremiah would have written on, to parchments that Paul would have used, and a bound Bible that is common today, the Scriptures remain a guide for all people on their walk through life. They teach us which way we should go, what manner to walk in, and keep us from stumbling. Also indicated in the painting is the sanctifying work of the Word of God. Jesus said, “Sanctify them in Your truth; Your Word is truth” (John 17:17). With that in mind, the feet of the believer, though muddied by the sinful nature and the world, are cleansed by the Word as he or she walks in it. This is also in keeping with words of Paul when he wrote that Christ washes His bride with the Word, making her holy (Ephesians 5:25-26).
