Jeremiah was known as the weeping prophet; he desired so much that Israel would turn back to God. From his mother’s womb, God had set His hand upon Jeremiah, appointing him to be a prophet to the nations. Jeremiah was instructed by God to carry out graphic, theatrical displays to call people to repentance. He used simple items and situations, such as a potter forming clay, to teach and warn the Israelites. His prophetic career occurred during an extremely turbulent, wicked time in Israel’s history and his message was not met with joy and repentance, but rather with threats and persecution. At one point, he was even thrown into a well by his adversaries and left to die there. Jeremiah’s testimony reminds us to be faithful to God’s Word, even if we are opposed by those who do not know God to the very point of death.
