John the Baptist

John the Baptist

Jesus said that there is no one greater among the human race than John the Baptist, the man who ate honey and locusts, who wore a coat of camel’s hair, and who baptized the repentant in the Jordan River in anticipation of Jesus’ forthcoming ministry.  John was forceful in speech, telling those who presumed to be leaders in the temple that God’s axe was at the root of their trees. The arc of his prophetic ministry was described years before when Isaiah spoke of one who would prepare the way of the Lord, lowering mountains and raising valleys to make it so that all mankind would see His glory.  The majesty of the Lord Jesus was so great that John said he wasn’t even worthy to untie His sandals!

See Isaiah 40:3-5 and Matthew chapter 3 for the whole story.

I hope that this image will be a reminder to you of the truth of God’s Word, His manner of revealing His plans across time, and His faithfulness to make a way for all to come to know Him.
