Jesus’ longest sermon written down for us today is called the Sermon on the Mount. This image pictures some of the teachings found within it. Jesus told His followers to be salt and light to the world. We are also to walk on the narrow way that leads to life, rather than the broad road that leads to destruction. We are to withhold judgment from others prior to examining our own hearts and actions, lest a plank in our own eye keeps us from helping our neighbor. At the same time, we must be shrewd in our judgment of those who claim to be servants of Christ, but are really wolves in sheep’s clothing, trying to lead us astray. We are commanded not to worry, for God has seen fit to clothe even the lilies of the field with splendor! Instead, we are to ask the Lord for our provision, and He will open the door for us. In everything, we are to build our lives upon Jesus Christ, our true and sure foundation, and in so doing, we will be able to withstand the storms of life.
