Three images from Peter’s life are present in this painting. He was a simple fisherman before he was called by Christ to become a “fisher of men.” During a storm at sea, bold Peter was the only disciple who dared to step out of the boat and walk to Christ, who Himself was walking upon the water. Finally, during Jesus’ trial, the lowest and most remembered poing of Peter’s life occurred: his denial of his Lord, and the rooster rowing in confirmation.
See Matthew 14:22-32, Mark 1:16-18 and 14:53-72
I hope that this image will be a reminder to you of the truth of God’s Word, His method of calling ordinary people to do great things for Him, and His gentle restoration of those who sin.
